Fold me

Samsung launched the Fold 7 this week and I have been wanting one for several years now but never purchased one. Why? Well three things really:

Software

Samsung with OneUI really is what Android is about for me. I.e user choice to make the device look and feel like mine. I have a Pixel for work and in comparison it reminds me more of iOS than Android. I'd even argue iOS 17 on my iPhone feels more customizable to me than the Pixel does. But since i got the Galaxy S25 in February and using all three side by side really gives me perspective and confirms that OneUI is still what i prefer and want if i'm going to spring for the cost of a foldable. 

Price 

Has been and continue to be quite high. Especially when living where i live we get the shafted due to currency and other costs. Trade-in offers also never reach any level even close to what i see in many other countries. I could import the Oppo Find N5 or Vivo X Fold 5 but then i'd only have the manufacturer warranty and hassle with added cost of sending it back overseas if i'd need any service on it. Honor Magic V3 i can order to a store for physical pickup but i am not sold on their software. Between the three alternatives i guess ColorOS on the Oppo is the one i could get along with. 

Also if i'm going to pay a high price for a device i expect to get monthly or atleast bi-monthly security updates which Oppo and Honor seem to struggle keeping up with. Them seem to promise them but i haven't been able to find any details on if this actually accurate or not. So that leaves me with either Pixel or Samsung. 

Usability

I knew from the beginning i'd want one where i could use it as a regular phone full time if i wanted and only unfold it when needed or i felt like it. All previous Samsung folds have had the narrow front screen which made me feel like i would need to fold it open for most things. Now with the wider front screen on the Fold 7 this issue has been resolved.  

Conclusion 

Maybe, maybe not. Also i lied as there are four reasons i want one and the final reason is that it is something different, something new for me. 

I really like the Mint color 🤩

Me being me i also got tempted to get the S25 Edge since it's on quite heavy discount currently and the light weight and slimness of it is intriguing.
