Starting on Linux
LinuxI've had a few people ask me how i made the switch and what made it work for me so here goes, keeping it short:
Since i have been on Windows for 30+ years with brief stints on Mac besides my side ventures into basic linux server management so when i made moved over first on my laptop five years ago i went with a desktop enviroment that was so different to what i was used to it forced me to push all my learned behaviour and expectations on how a desktop behaves back into my head which made accepting and learning desktop Linux much easier for me. Not saying it will for everybody but again, i was asked so i am sharing what made sense for me.
And in my opinion whatever distribution is running it all really does
not matter* as much as some make it out to do.

However using something established so you know security patches and other parts are kept up-to date is recommended. Examples are Ubuntu or any of it's flavors and Fedora or it´s derivatives like uBlue
And in my case the desktop enviroment i started out on was Gnome but if looking for a bit more traditional i recommend KDE Plasma
